Mercy Ships is an international humanitarian organisation that provides free, life-changing surgery to people with limited access to safe medical care. Through its hospital ships, the organisation brings together volunteer professionals from around the world to deliver specialised surgical care in partnership with African nations.

But the mission goes beyond surgery alone. Mercy Ships also invests in training local healthcare professionals, strengthening surgical systems and building long-term medical capacity — creating an impact that continues long after the ships have left port.

Since 1978, Mercy Ships has worked to bring hope and healing to those who need it most.

Two Ships. One Mission.

Mercy Ships operates two hospital ships: the Global Mercy™, the world’s largest purpose-built civilian hospital ship, and the Africa Mercy®. Together, they bring free surgical care, medical training and hope to communities where access to safe surgery remains limited.

Today, the two ships are serving in Ghana and Madagascar, working alongside local governments and healthcare professionals to create impact both on board and far beyond the ships themselves.
