The journey of WAVE began in 1994 with a single building on Verbindingsdok Westkaai 20 in Antwerp’s raw, industrial north, known as Het Eilandje. At the time, the neighborhood was dark and desolate, with remnants of a bygone industrial era. For others, it was unappealing; for our founder, it was magnetic; a canvas of untapped potential. The building, a ghost of its former self, was neglected and crumbling. Yet, it had a soul. Its old bricks, worn wooden floors, and staircase told a story. Renovated on a modest budget, it became a cool, affordable space with rough charm, blending the old with the new. The ground floor was transformed into a vibrant restaurant while maintaining its authentic elements. This wasn’t just a renovation; it was a declaration of what was possible. After this first success, the vision expanded. Building after building, we recycled history into vibrant, sustainable living spaces. What began as a humble project evolved into the transformation of an entire neighborhood. Today, Het Eilandje stands as one of Antwerp’s most sought-after areas, its soul intact but reimagined.
